Hotel and traveling

Hotel

This year we selected the Generator hotel as course hotel. Generator Amsterdam ( is located in the up-and-coming eastern side of the city, overlooking Oosterpark (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Generator+Amsterdam/@52.3607579,4.9188431,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x5b49f586c2553eb9!8m2!3d52.3607579!4d4.9188431). This former zoological university building has been completely renovated and can now  accommodate 564 guests. It has flexible and spacious social areas, filled with creative design touches like glass-fronted elevators, a light and airy café and an outdoor terrace. The hotel can be reached easily from Amsterdam Central Station using tram 14, leaving at stop Alexandersquare.

Traveling towards Science Park

The hotel will not in be the direct vicinity of Sciencepark, where the course lectures will take place. For traveling to Sciencepark, the other LCAM laboratories, the restaurants or back to the hotel we will make use of public transport. Using public transport in Amsterdam requires the so-called OV-cards, you can not pay tickets in the metro/tram or bus directly anymore (note that the train is excluded and has its own special cards)!

At Monday afternoon you’ll receive an OV card that is valid for 96 hrs starting from the moment you will use it for the first time. So when you start traveling on Monday afternoon back to the hotel you can use this card throughout the course. Additional travel info (towards labs and restaurants etc) will follow in the course manual later. In general: Traveling by public transport can be checked by the website http://9292.nl/en#.  Bus #40 stops in front of the Sciencepark building within 2 minutes walking distance.

For an overview of all public transport in the Amsterdam region please check out the Rail- (metro & tram) or Lijnen (all)- maps here.
